SUMMARY
Seemingly a normal (if rather depressed) high school student, Makoto is... anything but, really. In the course of his life, he's lost his parents to a mysterious accident, had a fragment of the embodiment of death itself sealed inside his body that same night, and had an unstable childhood moving between schools and never living in one place long.
All this while being aware of a hidden hour between midnight and 1:00 AM, normally imperceptible to ordinary people, known as the Dark Hour. It's not really any wonder that he's become apathetic to life and death as a result. Though, he is getting better.
ABILITIES
Persona:
Makoto is one of a handful of people who can wield the power of Persona, the physical manifestation of one's sense of self. Even more noteworthy, he holds the power of the Wild Card, which allows him to wield multiple Personas.
His starting Persona is Orpheus, the musician from Greek mythology who attempted to bring back is lover Eurydice from the underworld, but lost her due to looking back. He also eventually gains Thanatos, the bringer of peaceful death, and his ultimate Persona, Messiah. Of note is that both Orpheus and Messiah resemble him greatly.
To summon a Persona, Makoto (and the rest of his SEES teammates sans Aigis and Koromaru) have to use a gun-shaped device known as an Evoker, which is fired at the user's head in order to release their Persona. Naturally, this means Makoto summoning a Persona will involve imitated suicide, so please be aware of that when interacting with him!
Fusion Spell: A separate ability of Makoto's, Fusion Spells technically aren't unique to him, since the Persona 2 party could pull them off as a combination attack. Makoto, however, can use Fusion Spells entirely by himself, drawing on his immense potential to summon two Personas at once. It's conveyed a bit better by the Japanese name, Mix Raid.
NOTES
On his birthday: While it's never outright confirmed in Persona 3 or its spinoffs, the P3 fanbook (which is considered canon!) does show Makoto's birthday as the 5th of an unspecified month. Due to a significant event happening on March 5th at the end of the game, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to make that his birthday.
On the canonicity of the name Makoto Yuki: I already know some people will probably want to fight me on this, and insist Minato Arisato is the Persona 3 hero's canon name. I stick with Makoto Yuki because it's been used the most consistently by Atlus themselves, being his name in the Persona 3 movies, Dancing in Moonlight, and his default name in the 2023 multiplatform port of Persona 3 Portable, as well as Persona 3 Reload.
